How to Increase Your Success Rate When Carp Fishing

Fortunately, in recent years carp fishing has become looked at more favorably in North America and its popularity and reputation is on the rise. Sport fishers, especially, now see carp fishing as a contest between them and these often big, gutsy fish, and have come to admire them. You have to be ready by learning good strategies, preparing the right bait, and having the precise equipment you need.

A very quick method for learning about the best methods for carp fishing is to join a carp fishing group. Carp fishing groups are plentiful in Europe and, although not as numerous in North America, they can be found there in many locations. You may even be able to find a local group or club if you do an online search. If no local groups exist, the next best thing is to find discussion groups or forums on the internet that focus on carp fishing. Still and all, getting as much practice as you can will teach you much faster than just discussing the merits and tactics of carp fishing with other fishers.

One trait of carp that is to your benefit is that they are drawn to certain smells even though they are repelled by other smells. There's a simple but effective technique that many experienced carp fishermen use, and this is simply attracting carp using creamed corn.

Of the many foods that carp will eat, one of their favorites is corn. They love the taste, and the scent of corn will bring them to you. (corn-fed carp?) You can throw some corn in the water, or you can puncture a can of creamed corn with a can opener and throw it into the water. The scent of the corn will attract the attention of the carp and perhaps other fish in the area. If you make a habit of this, and give the carp some time to begin eating the corn and letting their guard down a little, you will have a better chance of them biting your bait when you cast in.

For some reason, the majority of carp fishers haven't tried night fishing. They are missing out on a very good strategy for landing a carp. The same basic rules apply, though you have to bring the right kind of gear, such as flashlights of course. Fishing at night can be dangerous, especially if you're not very familiar with the terrain.

If you want to try night fishing, you may have a better outcome. At night, carp tend to let their guard down and relax more. You might want to gain a little experience before you tackle night fishing because your skill will be put to the test more so than when you fish in the daytime. You won't be able to see as well and will have to rely more on your sense of touch.

If you want to learn how to catch carp, it's best to study the methods of those who are well versed in this art. Carp fishing has been very popular in Europe for many years and doing research on European websites that cater to carp fishers will probably give you a lot of good strategies to increase your success. And, assuredly, as the sport of carp fishing is gaining popularity and acceptance in North America, it will be easier to get pointers and advice from local, expert carp fishers.
